Sailing Museum

Four years ago, we had the opportunity to tour the a replica of Columbus's Nina. This year, it was back in Chattanooga, along with another ship, the Pinta. We were not able to go see them this year, but were informed that afternoon that the ships would be sailing to Knoxville, up the Tennessee River, and would be passing through the lock at Watts Bar Dam at 4:15pm. With only a few minutes to spare, I loaded up the four older children (Jeremiah has just walked in the door and was able to stay with the two little ones who were napping.) and we drove the few miles to see what we could see. As we approached the bridge, there were the two ships, right on time! The children were so excited! Emily was quick to observe how tiny they really are, compared to ships of today. She said that they would be like toy boats on the ocean. I have to agree! I would not want to sail the 'ocean blue' on one of them! We weren't able to stay very long as we had to get home and get ready for church, but we were able to see a tugboat push a barge through the lock.
