Solar S'mores

Today we made a simple solar oven. I found the directions for this easy one here. It was a hot day; perfect for a solar experiment. We used a pizza box which already had a hole cut out of the top, so we added the bottom of another pizza box to make the top flap. We put aluminum foil on the top flap and on the bottom, then covered the foil on the bottom with black construction paper. We sealed the opening with plastic wrap and put in the s'mores! Very simple to make and lots of fun. I was surprised to learn a little about solar energy myself and very surprised at how much my children already knew about solar energy! Hopefully, this has sparked their curiosity about this topic and encourage them to try some other experiments on their own.

It took about 2 hours and probably could have stayed in the sun longer, but the box lid kept falling. We will definitely have to work out something more stable if we do this again.

The finished product! Yum!
